Hard Tack Radio and Partial India Radio QSLs

hard_tack_2 Many thanks to Hard Tack Radio and Harold Krishna of Partial India Radio for the QSLs! Partial India Radio was a real surprise, as I reported reception as unID on FRN and was only able to catch one song during the brief signal peak. Thank you, thank you very much!

WEAK Radio QSL

Many thanks to WEAK Radio for this, my 20′th QSL verification from their station! Obviously the device featured on this QSL is an early proto-type of the Perseus SDR receiver.

Asshat Press Release

MEMPHIS – Evil Elvis has number of Perseus SDR receivers spread at fixed locations throughout North America which are all tuned to receive pirate radio transmissions in order to verify the veracity of the actual total number of physical pirate shortwave transmitters that have been logged, verified and submitted by Evil Elvis to the North America Shortwave Association in order to meet the qualification requirements for the NASWA Pirate DXer award, including the coveted multiple station endorsement stickers.

Since the Perseus receivers sample a wide swath of spectrum, they also simultaneously receive a number of transmitters with known locations (broadcasters, major military installations, etc): T1, T2, T3, etc.

Disgracleand collects these recorded spectrum files from our wide network of Perseus receivers in order we can analyze the synchronized signals of T1, T2, T3, etc using sophisticated pattern matching (thus our use of implicit time synchronization between all Perseus receivers within the network), and compare these signals with Tx (unknown pirate transmitters), which will obviously have a different time/phase difference from known transmitters in each recording, since the distance between T1 and Tx will be different as observed from each receiver.

We have plotted hyperbolas of the received pirate signals, and can now report that we have conclusively determined that we can verify the location of all pirate transmissions currently on the log books and verified by Evil Elvis.

Our data shows that there is but one single pirate transmitter in North America, and that this transmitter is located behind a private residence on Manchester Drive in Mount Kisco, NY.

As a good faith gesture, and in keeping with the NASWA motto of “Unity and Friendship”, Evil Elvis has unfortunately had to resign his NASWA Pirate Radio DXer 50 station, 25 station endorsement and 10 station endorsement stickers, along with the basic Pirate Radio DXer award itself.

Dr. Nick has sedated Evil Elvis with a cocktail of Ketamine Hydrochloride, Xanax, Valium and Beer. We regret to announce that Evil Elvis’s QSL monkey, Splatt3r, has committed suicide.

Disgraceland has released this family photo of Evil Elvis and Splatt3r during happier times:

Pirate Radio Logs – May 28-29

Radio Ga-Ga SSTV (0322 UTC) Okay, I have been slacking hard with posting my logs here. I am going to my best to keep up tonight… Also, for a little blog bling here is a SSTV image from Radio Ga-Ga received last night at 0322 UT on 6925.

Captain Morgan Shortwave, 6924.5v AM, 2130 – great signal at tune-in, Albert Collin’s I Ain’t Drunk. Signal faded down quickly and remained at threshold level besides a few minor peaks, all blues music. Sounded like this was a repeat of Captain Morgan’s ‘Blues With a Bite’ show. Looks like he is off at 2212 UT.

WBNY Shortwave (tentative), 6900 AM, 2248 – decent carrier but audio is rather low at tune-in. Inc0gni0 on #pirateradio says he is hearing Commander Bunny.

Radio Ronin Shortwave, 6950.6v AM, *2343 – on with Stones’ Satisfaction interval signal, ID into Ram Jam, Head East, Buffalo Springfield old classics. Fair signal, nice modulation.

UnID, 6849.4 AM, 0012 – Could be M-A-C, relaying last week’s pirate radio special that was on AM radio, with Pat Murphy. Very low signal, getting better around 0045 to follow some of the audio. At 0105 the program content appears to have changed as I heard some Jay Smilkstein stuff on now. Still goinjg at 0200 but unfortunately at a very threshold level.

Outhouse Radio, 6926.14 AM, 0050 – Outhouse rocking the ionosphere with a Black Sabbath marathon! Very nice signal with Black Sabbath, The Wizard and more of the classics.. even Changes. Signal ended up fading out to barely audible!

UnID, 6925 USB, 0120 – Good signal except het from Outhouse. Played a bluegrass tune ‘Waterloo’ and gone, one and done!

WEAK Radio, 6930 USB, 0124 – by far the best signal of the night, WEAK at a S9+20 level with awesome modulation. Music by Bloc Party, The Sounds, System of a Down, Rose Tattoo and much more. Awesome!

201005290444 Wolverine Radio, 6925 USB, 0300 – Nice signal from Wolverine, opening with usual Barenaked Ladies Testing 1,2,3. Tonight’s set is mostly oldie songs from Coasters, Louis Jordan and Little Richard. Lots more, good signal. Finishing up with Whats Love Got To DO With It and then a James Brown SSTV image at 0443.

Gumby Radio, 6930 USB, 0458 – awesome Gumby concept show! Tribute to Art Clokey and Gumbies TV debut in 1956 with monolgue of Art talking about LSD and Mescaline experiences. Bend Me, Shape Me song, Beatles and off at 0531 with “If you would like a QSL for this program, you probably need psychiatric help”. LOL

Radio Jamba International, 6899.85 AM, 0542 – Just when I thought the pirates had furled their sailed for the night, I find Kracker staying up late with a nice LIVE AM signal just below 6900 kHz. Song by Cake at 0545 then a shout out by Kracker mentioning my FRN report. Songs by the Doors, Zappa, and a RJI style public service warning about the dangers of music. Deep fade at 0605 during Riders on the Storm but I am going to stick with it for a while to see if it returns.

Wow, tons of activity tonight. Hopefully this is an indication of a lots of activity over the holiday weekend. Thanks to all the ops out there!

Captain Morgan Shortwave QSL

Many thanks to Cap’n Morgan for this evil QSL. This is my 5′th different QSL from Captain Morgan, including the awesome legendary Captaion Morgan SHortwave ‘Pirate Zone’ QSL clock! This one was for one of his rare SSB broadcasts last night. The strong signal was ‘very variable’ and distorted for a while, but then settled down and cleared up. Captain Morgan reported that he found a loose ground connection during the transmission, and performed emergency repairs without ever leaving the pirate zone! Thank ya, thank ya very much.

Nonymouse Relay’s Radio Garbanzo QSL

Many thanks to Nonymouse Radio for this awesome QSL design. Radio Garbonzo was active from the mid 80’s into the 90’s. Google tried to destroy this QSL a few times, but it finally made it through. Thanks Nonymouse!
